I'm just curious how many of yall know why Tennesseans are known as volunteers. And yes, it does relate directly to Texas history. I am a native of TN (born in Chatt, TN) and just figured that I would ask just like the news media sometimes does to random people they run across on the street. On a serious note, I currently live in Colorado Springs, CO and am considering moving to TX to attend UT-Austin for the remainder of my degree program since TX is giving military veterans in state tuition if you move to TX. On that note, how much does license and registration normally run in TX? When I first moved to Colorado I had to pay $130.00 on a 2002 Ford Focus Ridiculous high here in CO if ya ask me.

Crockett & his buddies "volunteered" to come to Texas to kick b*tt & earn (aquire) some free land. I'm assuming the fact that they would be pioneering & hunting prime virgin land led to their "volunteering" as well.

Houston (another Tenessean) volunteered as well, but was escaping bad karma back home (as a former husband & governor) & was looking to dry out after a two year drunk with his indian buddies in OK.

I thought it had to do with the many Tennesseans who came to Texas to fight in the battle of the Alamo, ie volunteers.
