Is this your final move(moving to Austin)? Sounds like it will be, for many.... (house, neighborhoods)

I think this a very interesting question to ask. I've seen rave after rave from new residents, and I strongly feel that this is their final move, pre-retirement, and that perhaps they will even retire here as well...
Is that the case? I'm I correct in presuming Austin will not be a "du Jour" soup-of-the-day destination, but a very much final one for the vast majority of new residents? I really think that most of them will be here that long, and settle down roots for several generations as well. call it a "last stop", if you will....

Per Brigham Young's famous statement while looking at the future SLC, "This is the place!",
perhaps Austin would be the 21st century equivalent to the same....

I planted 2 baby Crepe Myrtles in my yard when I bought my house to signal my arrival. those trees have since grown over my head and I would like to see them grow higher. so as long as those trees are growing, I'll be here.

I moved here in 1977 and don't plan on going anyplace else unless the taxes and fee's drive me out.

It is possible that if my wife dies before I do, I may sell everything and go live on a sailboat the rest of my life, drifting from place to place.

But that is the only "plan" I have on possibly leaving.

came here for graduate school, had never set foot in TX before, that was 20 years ago. My kids are proud to be native Texans. Spouse and I have both turned down jobs that would take us out of Austin. It seems we are here for the duration.

I just found out that one of my cousins is having a house built somewhere close to Lake Travis, and they'll be going back and forth until their final retirement! Since that started, another cousin has decided that they want to retire there, too, LOL!!

Since I already have a sister and two sets of cousins there already, it will be easy to just fly into Bergstrom and see nearly everybody all at once!

Austin and vicinity is a neat place, but lordy, it is SO hot most of the year!

What I look forward to, if people feel "this is the place", is for neighborhoods to become more established, with more local traditions and feel, like the older cities in the midwest and east.
The less transient and strip mallish Austin looks in the future, the better.

If a feeling of permanence takes over the city that could hugely change the look and feel of the metro as a whole......and we can define the city for ourselves, rather than the builders...
