Anybody know specific buildings/complexes that would be good to live in, that are 1,200 or under for studio or 1 bed.. and which are downtown in a relatively safe area?

You need to call a lease locator. They are free to you. Google "Lease Locator Austin". They will tell you where and what you can get for your budget.

If you use the forum search function you will find lots of previous threads on this topic. Violent crime is relatively low all over Austin, there are only a few small areas East of I-35 you should avoid.
