You either lived in the wrong part of the metro area, or you have never lived there! Rochester Hills and Clarkston great places to live!

As for Austin you will easily find friends if you move to an active area

I was in Detroit earlier this year for a couple of days during Memorial Day weekend. From what I saw, the airport is very nice and entertaining (the flashing lights between terminals). The drive between the airport and the metro area was very saddening to say the least. Then, when I got to the metro area, I was amazed how much different it was. All in all, I do like how the city of Detroit looks like, but was a bit concerned about a lot of office buildings vacant. The casinos looked nice too.

thanks everyone...we don't live in the city, we live in suburb between detroit and ann arbor...Plymouth/Northville area. It is a very nice area and we will miss it if we decide to move. I am thinking Cedar Park area or Round Rock. My main priority is my children. What has happened to Detroit as a whole is sad but we do enjoy going into the city for sports, some restaurants and occasionally a casino.

If you thought the areas around the airport were bad... don't go into Detroit city proper.. there are areas that would make you wonder just how it got that bad. It's sad, but tis the remnants of the demise of the domestic automotive market and a strong manufacturing base here in the USA.
