i HATE paying for parking (however, if i must, i want it to be CHEAP.... real cheap). So, i bring to you the following questions...

1. what options do i have for the Trail of Lights?

2. what options do i have for the Armadillo Christmas Bazaar (besides going on either a weekend or weekday after 530)?

3. is the parking under I-35 between 6th and 7th free or not? i've been hearing mixed responses.

4. besides under mopac by zilker park, where are all the other free parking lots by the river?

also, a point i'd like to add.... i have no problems walking up to a half a mile to my destination (i'd personally walk further but i will have visitors with me)

parking under I-35 is free, but you have a fair chance at your car getting broken into/stolen, as that area is a red flag for those looking to steal cars, or things OUT of cars, per there being no protection/policing of the area.......parking in lots is still pretty cheap here(7-10 bucks), so I still think it better just to pay it, rather than walk 1-5 miles for free parking.

is it free all the time? or just on weekdays? i received the following comments on another forum today...

"It's not free, it's $5 to park there weekend nights, but I haven't had any problems ever leaving my car there. It does tend to fill up early at times, that's the only downside."

"It was free until about 4-5 years ago when the city realized that they should make us pay for the things we already paid for with taxes."

"Last time I parked under there I could swear I paid $7"

... with all that being said.... is there some sort of secret free spot or something?

Parking under I-35 is not free at night if anything is going on downtown. Normally there is a guy there that will take $5 from you and give you a ticket to put on your dashboard. I've parked there several times (probably 20 times over the past 3 years) and never had a problem with my car getting broken into. Do you actually have statistics on cars being broken into in that lot? I normally end up parking there if I'm going to a concert at Stubb's or Emo's.

i'd also want to add that safety is not an issue for me. my car is a complete pile and i keep nothing of value in it. i also protect myself so walking is never an issue.

I don't know. I normally only park there for concerts or restaurants on 6th so I always arrive after 6:00pm. There aren't any signs posted there with any parking information. I've been down there during the day on weekends before and didn't have to pay. I've never tried to park there during the day on a weekday.

It is free during the day. But it gets pretty heavy use during the day since Municipal Court is right there!
