Hi all,

I made my decision earlier this year to move to Austin. I am a 27 year old living in St.Louis Missouri working in IT for a telecommunications company. I had put in the request to relocate (link) and it got approved all the way to the top, and then that executive denied my request.

A few months have passed and I still want to move to Austin. This of course means looking for a new job. I graduated with a Management Information Systems and Management Degree and also got my MBA. I am currently a business and technical requirements lead working with SAP.

I have started applying for jobs using Indeed.com. A few through KForce and so on. But I am concerned that since my current zip code is not in Austin, they might overlook me.

I lurk on these forums throughout the week and see how helpful MOST of you really are. Any connections, tips, advice?

Thanks so much, it is all very much appreciated.

The reason you prob won't get killer inside advice is for the same reason people never give out parking secrets. If they have a special line on how to land something, you can bet they will keep it to themselves, and not divulge it to strangers/possible competitors.....

I have heard that a local zip can be helpful, so you might want to come out here before you start actively looking, though I know its a chicken/egg thing. You should find a few people here that can tell you how hiring in general is going in Austin per the field, and maybe a few on-line job banks....

Best of luck to you...

I don't know how helpful this would be because I've never tried it, but I just had a thought that maybe if you were to visit you could open a PO Box and then forward your mail to your St Louis address.

There would obviously be a delay in getting your mail sent to that address, but you could at least use an Austin address on your resume, etc.

Maybe not a real helpful thought, but a thought...

Good luck!

Thanks for the advice. I actually had thought about the P.O. Box idea, I might end up doing that. I also have a friend that lives in Austin, I could probably use him. I'll probably wait 3-4 weeks and see if I get any responses before I start to get tricky.

I don't expect anyone to give me any inside info, but you never know and it doesnt hurt to ask. Maybe I'm just hoping for a nice Christmas present
