I never got the chance to try any others since we were only in Austin for a month.
I read this post and set out to try these the other day. I had the chicked and tomotillo ones. I didn't see them wrapped individually, so I bought the pack of 6.

I love tamales when I can get them, but I don't think I am an expert on them. But these were FANTASTIC!!!!! Good call on this, thanks.

I also tried the central market tamales, I liked the chicken ones and the bean and cheese ones. I didn't know much about tamales but they are good.

Those are the ones I liked the best! I never saw them individually either, always in bundles of 6 or 12 I believe. Good thing since 1 would have never been enough LOL

We had a big buffet and tamales werent featured so we just bought some packaged ones at HEB. They were made in Austin and were surprisingly decent given the cheap price. Also they had no unnatural ingredients. Too bad they dont sell them year round at HEB I might eat more tamales.

I believe they do sell packaged tamales year round at HEB. At least, the ones that I go to in Georgetown and Round Rock and Austin do.

Call Sylvia at Supreme Painting in south Austin. They make great chicken and green chili tamales and the best pork tamales I have ever had. Her husband is a great painter if your house needs a facelift. They are in the phone book. I have bought from them since 2000. Reliably the best handmade tamales in town!!
Cheers!

You're right but I dont see this particular brand thats made in Austin year round.
I've had packaged tamales from HEB before and they were awful. Used junk cuts of meat and the masa was gritty.

Obviously a packaged tamale isnt going to be as good as the better homemade one. But they were good enough to satisfy a quick tamale fix and they were inexpensive.
