My wife and I will be visiting Austin from Virginia this Wednesday through the following Monday (Veteran's Day) to check out the area for a possible move next summer. Does anyone know of any events in or around Austin during that time that would be good things to do (we are in our late 20's and have a wide variety of interests)? If not, what would be some must see things in or around Austin?
Also, we have been looking at homes in Round Rock, Cedar Park and Leander online through Zip Realty. We are supposed to meet with a Zip Realty agent that we have been in contact with. Can anyone give me any information about Zip Realty? Are they a large realty company in the area? Do they have a good reputation? Would anyone recommend them or not recommend them?

Thank you.

This website lists the events by day and has links, blogs, other info so hopefully you'll find something that looks interesting to you. (I thought the music event on Friday at the French Ligation Museum looked fun so guess I'm a bit nerdy )

I live in that area and haven't heard of Zip Realty...so I can't help you with that. But if you have any other questions just ask.

Enjoy your visit!

They are relatively new in Austin. I haven't heard anything good or bad about them, nor have I done any deals with their agents.

It's really the individual agent you should scrutinize as much as the company they associate with. Ask a lot of questions and make sure they know the areas they are showing you and are willing to tell you pros and cons.

If you're considering new homes, make sure they know how to negotiate with builders and have done it before (this is a great time to negotiate a good deal on an inventory home - every agent should know that and be able to explain the strategy they would advise you through).

If you're looking mostly at resale homes, make sure they can articulate, based on personal experience and knowledge, the pros and cons of different neighborhoods, schools, commute times, toll road issues, property taxes and water districts, etc. - in the context of your particular needs and wants.

Actually, my husband works for Zip Realty. If you have any questions about Zip, feel free to PM me and I can pass them on to my husband who probably personally knows your agent. My husband is one of the 3 team leaders in the Austin division and has 18 agents working under him.
