Help me, Austin! I am a regular gal with a family who is FED UP with Seattle!!!
No more moss!!! No more mist, rain, and huge branches pelting my house! No more 250+ lb people covered in tattoos wearing stained t-shirts and ponytails (men and women)!
No more RVs with flat tires and blue tarps over their roofs!!
No more twighlight! (The lighting and the movie!!!)
No more teens who look suicidal and wear more black than most people on Halloween!
No more planting a veggie garden and finding myself raising a powder-moss mess!

Yuppies? Bring them on!! I love them and their clean living!
Conservative values? Yes!!! Why not?
Tex-Mex? LOVE IT!!! Bring it on!!
Sun and heat?? I have air conditioning and suntan lotion. Vitamin D is a good thing!
Urban sprawl? Well, that is everywhere, including Seattle. I think that is just a fact of life anymore.

And as much as I hate to say it, Texas has STYLE!!! Not Seatte-grunge style, but real pride-in-your-stride style!!

Keep it up, Austin!!!

Well, I love Seattle. If not here, I'd like to live there. But then, I like rain, drizzle and overcast days. To each his or her own.

Best of luck to you if you make a move!

Its just that everything I read about Austin rubs me the right way - Even the "bad" stuff people complain about. Most of these things are simply modern life - Traffic, competitive job market, etc. I have to be honest, I would really love to find a place where people are warm, friendly, and take pride in themselves, their homes, and their city.
And I want to get out of this capitol of mold, moss, and fungus!!! :-)

Is Austin conservative? I hope not.
Depressed people often wear black and it is caused by a lack of sunshine so Seattle is off limits.
Fat! Seattle is fat? Austin is thin.
Veggie gardens grow great in Texas.

Where do you purchase those rose-colored glasses?

You're the first person I've seen who wants to move to Texas for style. I lived in Austin for 17 years, and I'd caution you... Many of the items on your list of reasons you are leaving Seattle, you will find in Austin. Yes, the weather will be different. However everyone has A/C and yet somehow many still find 60 consecutive days of over 100 degree heat uncomfortable.

I'm not sure anyone has used the term yuppie since 1988...

I would just caution you to have reasonable expectations... Austin is the most liberal city in Texas, but will seem more conservative by Seattle standards. Don't believe everything you read about Austin. It's a nice, livable city with mild winters, oppressively hot summers, a moderate economy and a lower COL.

I think if you are looking for nice people you find them everywhere. I live a short train ride from NYC. I think the people here are very nice...

Good luck.

I came from Seattle and I've been super happy here. I would rather live through the hard summers (I actually enjoyed the heat) way better than the constant grey. Not seeing the sun for months on end is horrible...

I imagine there are many Austinites (myself included) wishing they could be living in Seattle during August and September.

Give it a few years. The sun will fry your brains inside your skull.
When you can see details of your surroundings through your closed eyelids...you know it's too sunny.
