Moved to Hutto from Wisconsin and have found the water to be metallic and chlorinated unless filtered. I know it is a different supply than Austin proper but sounds like typical results. Simple filter on the fridge makes it taste fine.

I drink the tap unfiltered and unfiltered. Unfiltered, it does have a very minor minerally/muddy taste to it that is removed by my fridge filter. Its also cold out of the fridge filter so that would mask most of the flavor either way as its not strong. By comparison, I came from NYC where the quality is some of the best in the world and it didn't bother me when I arrived.

I'm in SW Austin. I recently read some article that Austin had the 2nd best water in the US, based on quality. And no, NYC wasn't first. NYC was over 10 years ago.

I can't tell the difference between tap and PUR.

The largest bottled water seller is Coca Cola's Dasani. It comes from the Detroit river. I guess that is better than coming from the Mississippi river in New Orleans, where it has already passed through seven toilets. NOLA is the one city where bottled water makes sense.
