Actually 'joined' EP a few years back when qualies for CHL were held there. Haven't returned to shoot since. Visited BOTW two weeks ago(SERIOUS wind!!!) and enjoyed the time; but it won't be long before an indoor range will come in mighty handy(I don't like to sweat on my firearms ).

Shady Oaks is going to be a seriously nice facility for those who shoot pistols indoors! MIGHT be open this week! Did I mention I have to drive by Bush's Chicken on the way?

It's funny reading this post now, four years later. The dream of a 200K home in Allendale, Hyde Park or Crestview is gone gone gone.

But I would agree those are great neighborhoods. I would second the notion of southwest Austin, though, if you aren't rich enough to live in the middle of a west Austin neighborhood.

lol

My brother bought his first home in Crestview (on Piedmont) for $6,500...... in 1959. At that time everything north of his house was farms & ranches.

I might try Shady Oaks for some handgun shootin', but will go out to BOTW to pop the cherry on my new S&W M&P 15 Sport 5.56. Never have been there, but I hear the lady who runs EP is a bit overbearing.

Yep, EP can be hit or miss from what I'm told. I didn't care for the 'vibe' when I went back a couple of times. BOTW will certainly get some action from me; especially since my trip to Shady Oaks today...looks like the end of the month opening would be a safer bet than late this week. Except for a pellet rifle, I'm strictly a handgun shooter.

I strongly prefer Best of the west but still go to eagle peak if Im in a hurry.

The range officers and desk people at eagle peak can be very surly so Im extra nice and then they are ok.

Best of the west has tactical bays which just have berms on 3 sides, you can pretty much shoot what you want there except tannerite (explosives).

They also have a 1000 yard rifle range.
