Well he pointed out that he's not the typical fist pumping NJ type and is pretty laid back instead. That's my personality too and I have never missed NJ and even hate going back to visit family.

He'll do just fine in Austin

It's the high-strung fist pumping types that miss it and constantly complain about how much better everything is in NY/NJ.

Haha I have to admit when I originally posted this.. I expected a "use the search function noob" response

But I'm very happy with the number of responses on here. Thank you all

There's only so much you can learn about a place by asking questions and talking to people. I will have to visit in the near future and feel it out for myself...

Thanks again everyone

+1

There's a lot of bias on this forum, on both sides....and I don't mean both sides of I-35, which is a whole other raging debate on this forum!

I have to say after my last encounter with the folks from "Jawsy..." that I have an EXTREME distaste for them. Some of the rudest people I have ever met, it wasnt just one, it was hundreds of them on a cruise ship in the Caribbean. So I would be inclined to tell you to stay in NJ.

However, I think it's great you want to branch out and find a new life and get away from that lifestyle. Jersey Shores isnt doing you guys any favors by the way...

Austin is a great place. Of course you already know that. It won't be hard to find a job unless you want to do something in the software/network admin lane. It seems those are the ones that have the most folks competing.

And yes, the party life is all that, and then some. I used to party on 6th two days a week, for two years straight. It was my second home. It has lost some if it's swagger over the years and I am still trying to figure out what the deal is with it. It's still fun but it needs something. It lost part of it's mojo.

You would love it here being single, outgoing, and young. Good luck man, I hope you find what your looking for. I would suggest though. Don't come here with the attitude this is where you belong before you get here. Come for a week, stay in a cheap hotel downtown, and party, go look around, go see the places, go tubing on the river, eat some BBQ and just observe. Then still see if it feels right when you leave.

I think you mean "Joisy".

If you're going to stereotype a whole group of people, at least get their lingo correct.

My friend Nomore is putting it to you with a lot of sugar.
There really isn't anything in Austin.

Many employers will prefer recent grads from their alma mater. You cannot just apply for a job here, it takes connections, which you will not have if you move from out of state.

I'll get flamed for saying that, but if you're going through the expense, effort, and risk of moving cross-country, you deserve the truth, not down-your-throat advertising.

The night life really isn't all that great.
The extreme amounts of traffic, crowding, drunkards, drug addicts, foul homeless people, robbing, and what not are horrible!

I bought my first car in Mauwhah, NJ... Not sure if thats how you spell it. Not too far from EWR.

Anyways, I am originally from Idaho and I am sure lots of people have a distate for that place as well. Bu were not ALL bad, as all folks from NJ arent.

I hope you get to find what it is your looking for. You seem nice, thats always good. Most all of the folks here are nice too.

Again, good luck! Be glad to have ya.
