Hey whats up...

I'm a 23 year old single male who currently lives in Central Jersey. I graduated from college (Rutgers) a year and a half ago and currently have a full time job.

I grew up in NJ my whole life and really want to change it up. All of my friends around here know each other from high school and are complacent with their social lives.. but it's just not happening for me.

I consider myself an open-minded, and pretty outgoing person. I love going out to bars/clubs, and honestly.. I just want to experience a new network of people and friends.

I definitely want to move by the end of this year, and after talking to people, and doing some research... Austin sounds so awesome to me.

Just sounds like a great place for 20 year olds to meet new people with good food and good nightlife.

I'm not your typical fist pumping New Jersey guy.. I get along with everyone and just focus on having a fun time no matter what I'm doing.

any comments/thoughts about this would be greatly appreciated ...

thanks!

If you have the financial means, then definitely, get out and explore the country and live in different places. Austin has quite a bit to offer someone your age. With one of the largest universities in the country (UT Austin) and several smaller colleges in the area, you will find thousands of people your age in Austin.

Give it a shot, but I'd suggest visiting first. You didn't mention what you degree or field is, but be aware you'll be competing with approximately 100,000+ students from UT-Austin and Texas A&M for a narrow range of jobs. Many employers will prefer recent grads from their alma mater. You cannot just apply for a job here, it takes connections, which you will not have if you move from out of state.

I'll get flamed for saying that, but if you're going through the expense, effort, and risk of moving cross-country, you deserve the truth, not down-your-throat advertising.

Yea as always, I'm grateful for some real info

I don't want people to just say "yay Austin is the greatest" lol.. I've just been hearing and reading such great things about the lifestyle in the city that I'm strongly attracted to it..

But the never ending "job hunt" f*cks everything up.. thanks for the brutal honesty, really

Moved here from Jersey (near Clifton) about 2.5 years ago with my family and haven't looked back. I get depressed when I have to travel back to NJ for work (snows every single time I go back in January).

If I was single and in my 20's, I'd be partying downtown 3-4 nights per week.

I'm from NJ - go for it!! I only wish I'd lived somewhere like Austin when I was single. I don't think you can go wrong.

I wish you the best of luck but I have to say that folks from the northeast seem to have the hardest time adjusting . . . no pro sports here, no Italian food to speak of, different style of music, it can be harder to adjust than many people think.

I do know folks from NJ who love it here . . . but they are more the exception than the rule.

Mandola's Italian Market and DirecTV's NFL package (go Jets) are enough to get me over any such NJ nostalgia.

Get out of NJ if you can, whether it's Austin or somewhere else.
