I was just looking up apartments in Austin on forrent.com and a few other sites, there seems to be many cheap 1 bedrooms for under 600. Do you guys think u could get a livable apartment there in for under that, or are they all in dangerous areas? The vast majority of them seemed to be in the top half of the city, and I don't recall really seeing any in the southern part of the city. A lot of them you can go to their actual website and apply for them or schedule appointments for, and I thought Austin was more expensive then Houston or Dallas and such, so it seems weird that there are more cheap apartments there then I thought. The prices do seem slightly outdated at forrent.com sometimes, but you can go to their official website and get the real prices, and they're not bad at all. I ignore apartmentratings.com because it seems just about every apartment has mainly negative reviews, and the apartment I live in now in Minnesota has like 5% there. I have also seen many say they are within a few minutes to dell and such, and I know exactly where Dell is located in the city, and it doesn't seem like a terrible neighborhood.

Central Austin is going to be the most expensive. Out by Dell is safe and the apartments are nice. Home prices are cheaper in Houston and Dallas, but I think rentals are about the same. I'd bet lots of apartments in Austin are in safe areas.

Ok, that sounds great. Wish I could relocate right now.

North Austin has been overbuilt with apartment complexes in the last decade so you can find some great deals right now in safe -- but boring -- areas. I recently drove by a huge, mostly completed complex that was apparently shuttered and mothballed before it was even finished.

The nice thing is, even though North Austin might not be "cool", it is convenient to most things you'll need in your everyday life and a relatively quick drive to downtown.

It would definitely be better then where I am at now, about id say 90-120 minutes depending on traffic to downtown minneapolis and the mall of america, and if it is a decently safe area, then that would be more important to me. St. Cloud is absolutely boring and driving to Minneapolis for entertainment is just annoying.
