We've been here two years and are FINALLY getting some attractive birds around our feeder. I'll agree, most of them are not pretty to watch. The hawks are pretty cool, though . I do miss the cardinals and woodpeckers.

If you have a greenbelt behind your property, you're very likely to get cardinals, bluejays, red tail hawks and hummingbirds - and for some reason, they only seem to live in greenbelts, with the exception of the Red-tailed Hawk that lives at City Hall (which is a certified natural habitat)

Something else that Austin doesn't have....and I wish it did:

A good AUTHENTIC Irish pub. I don't mean Fado's which is basically a college bar with a shamrock on the signage. I mean a place with live Irish music and good old-fashioned drunks from the UK.

I was going to say that we see all sorts of beautiful birds where we live. We don't live on a greenbelt but the houses across the street from us are one one so that might have something to do with it.

Bull McCabe's on Red River is that. Well except for the live music part. If you are lucky, you'll be greeted by the one of the Irish owners cursing at random people in the street. They can't be bothered with food (although you can get a slice next door at Hoboken pie!)... or even a web site. But they'll serve you a pint, play you in a dart game, and tell you to **** off. Not necessarily in that order.

Put out a bird feeder. Our house does no back on a greenbelt but we get cardinals, blue jays, woodpeckers, hummingbirds and a huge variety of other birds.
