When you are in public the only exposure people get is the one you portray at that time. So if you act like a black person with no manners or sense of responsibility. What are people to think?
A lot of people come in during SXSW and ACL fest and act fools, but nobody blinks an eye at those people here in Austin so that argument doesn't hold water.

Austin is a terrific city and I didn't find it racist at all (for the month I was there). But racism is a human condition and you'll find it everywhere.

Our experiences are different. We're north central (now considered central, I guess), and my kids have always gone to school with kids of different races. I'd say my youngest child's friends are evenly distributed...black, hispanic and white. My older children graduated from high school many years ago.

"So If you act like a black person with no manners or sense of responsibility"

WTF????!!!!!!! Why would you relate black people with having no manners or responsibilites? How is "acting black"? Last time I check, it was the illegal immigrants who were smashing in people's car windows and stealing petty crap from people's cars. Are the "thugs" you talking about at the relays, hispanics....or poor white trash??? I'm confused

LOL> I forget it. Is it "irony" when you angrily chide racism with more racism?

He is the type that is tolerant of black people as long as they "know their place".

You guys do realize someone deliberately resurrected this thread to continue this conversation (or lack thereof) for fun, pleasure, or both. My question is: what new information has been gleaned in this series of posts that wasn't there when the thread was launched?

I was stating that this person was applying that blacks are irresponsible and lack manners. He claims that they are the ones that come out "at the relays" and give the city a bad name...and I was applying that that could not be possible, since blacks only make up for 10% of Austin's population (i think it might be a little less than that)....so any bad perception that Austin has is not based on the faults of black people..because it's not enough of them......

So the only race left that would give Austin a "bad reputation" would be the other races left in the city, whites and hispanics....

I'm so glad our leader and BOSS is BLACK...love you Obama! smh but people still don't get it

Lol yeah, I'm starting to realize that because the original starter of this thread has not posted anything since they opened the thread. She/he hasn't replied to any of our questions we asked her...its quite clear that she/he is reading what WE have to say though...smh....lol...but it is still a good topic to talk about.

You know, austin may still be a "liberal" state but the stigma of predjudice and racisms IS here....its kind of hard to discuss with others who don't live in black or brown skin because they don't have a CLUE..they haven't lived the life of a brown/black person and they don't know the experiences that they go through on a daily basis....Racisms doesn't always have to be verbal...I know that this is especially true in Austin...it's very rare that you will find a person of any color that comes up to you and scream racist words...but 80% of racism is BODY LANGUAGE and subliminal messages.....as humans, you know when you are being rejected and what for....... just like when I was followed in a 7-eleven store like I was a criminal, despite the fact that I spend $10-$30 in this man's store every other day.......come on now

I just get confused when people come on the forum and say, "There's NO racism in Austin", but they are caucasion....well, we all know that most racism is directed towards people of color....we have to stop pretending this is not a fact....

Exactly I just find it wierd how people love to come to this forum and scream, "AUSTIN IS NOT RACIST"....but ummmm.......they're caucasion/white. I was just explaining this in another forum post that unless you live in the skin of a black and/or brown person, you will not know how it feels and what experiences that person goes through relating to racism.

I also hear a lot of people on this forum saying, "Racism is everywhere"...okay, that's nice, but we're not talking about "everywhere", we're talking about HERE in Austin. What can we do to make it more diverse??!! Having only two main races for a city (hispanics and whites) does not equal diversity for me.

and see, that qoute that that guy made, is just what I am talking about. He had the nerve to say, "Acting black"......OH, yeah, there's no racism in Austin (*rolling eyes*)
