I see the nice buildings at night when I cruise but is there a park or "point" in Austin to just kick back and view the skyline?

Good question. It would be neat to get a time lapsed video from such a place, as the sun goes down and the building lights come on. Austin has some wonderfully cool looking buildings.

There are few good places. It would depend on if you want to watch the sunrise or set. On top of some of the parking garages around town are great places to watch the sunrise and sets. I need to do some more time-lapses of downtown now that it is warning up again.

There is a parking lot on the edge of a hill on the east side of Barton Creek Mall which has a pretty nice view.

For a view a lot closer in, you can always go to observation hill which is next to the Long Center.

There's a good view of Downtown from the soccer fields in Zilker Park. Also, Mt. Bonnel and the UT Tower (although you have to get a guided tour, and the tower isn't open for tours at night).

The parking lot on the East side of Barton Creek mall is pretty clear, although the apartments build below there obstruct it a bit, I think.

I am guessing observation hill is the (man made?) hill betwen Town Lake and the Long Center. There is also a little water-foutain park thingy right there.

There is a 'scenic overlook' off of 360 somewhere just north of Bee CAves, I think, that has a nice view, too.

Mt Bonnell doesn't overlook Austin. I've been there. it only overlooks the lake and pretty houses beneath.

Walk all the way to the top, and then keep going... you'll come to a few big stairs where you'll walk down and be overlooking a power plant of sorts, from there the city is off on your left.

I hear that from the deck of the Joe's Crab Shack is a pretty good vantage point of the core of the downtown area.

Lou Neff Point, on the Zilker Park Trails, is also a good vantage point.
