So what is the club for a 42 yr old with a 29 yr old wife who is looking to settle in Austin and start a family? I do get awfully bored with one 18 hole course.... Is ACC really too old? I've been leaning toward BC for half the price... (I get a 10k discount.)

ACC is no longer a club for "old people". That was it's previous reputation, but the club has completely changed over the past 10 years. Go inside. You'll see tons of 30-somethings with toddlers around the pool, and the same people are out on the golf course. There are folks of all ages there, but I would guess that the majority of members are in their 30s and 40s.

Its simply a matter of exclusivity. ACC is the oldest club in Texas with the oldest member roster. There are not people in their 30's and 40's everywhere, It is an older membership. There are a thousand members+ so the golf course gets probably 30,000+ rounds per year.

Barton Creek is basically a public facility and a golf machine with 40,000+ rounds per year being played on each course. They flood the golf courses with corporate events so play is slow and crowded.

Spanish Oaks is the most exclusive by far with a member cap of 400 or so and less than 8,000 rounds per year. It also has the age group you are seeking. It is also the most expensive.

Anybody who takes your "insight" on ACC as accurate is doing themselves a tremendous disservice.

huh? The dude offered 6 different pieces of info when offering an opinion.

If you disagree, please let us know which of the six items (of info) you disagree with.

(i don't know squat about ACC....but hookem sounded like he offering his honest opinion.)

ACC indeed has a tremendous number of members in their 30's and 40's and it does not have the "oldest member roster" in Texas - as if he or anyone else has the data to make that ridiculous claim. The club is nearly overrun with kids and I am 100% certain they are the children of said significant-younger-membership and not the grandchildren of the senior members.

Judging from the "facts" he gets wrong about ACC, I would not put much faith into the accuracy of anything he posts. It seems to me that he is clearly not ashamed to comment on things he knows little about.

If you want my "honest opinions" about clubs I am not a member of please let me know. I'll be happy to play along.

The only "fact" that you disputed was his comment about the "age" of the members.

You've disparaged him & still haven't refuted his other opinions (5 other opinions).

I'm interested in knowing about country clubs in Austin. (# of rounds, exclusivity...or not, number of members, how long the CC has been in existence, if it's worth a darn, if it's hard, whether the ponds have gar fish or not....etc.)

I appreciate the opinions that folks offer on golf courses & clubs in Austin.

Please direct any further ACC questions to the unfairly disparaged expert and rest well knowing you are receiving the same quality information as was provided earlier in the thread (e.g., please carefully review posts #24-#26).

If you begin to question if your answers are coming from an authority on the subject, you may want to consider finding a copy of the book linked below. There is probably a copy at the library. Moreover, feel free to contact the ACC Membership Director (328-0090) with any tire-kicking questions. She gets paid more than I do to answer them.

That does not even come close to the truth. We have four courses and have no problem with tee times. Every day one of the Fazio courses is members only.

I question your numbers. What is your source?

So it depends on why you are joining a club. If your focus is primarily golf, no other club comes close to Barton Creek and it's four courses.

Don't forget that the average age of all private club members is pretty high. They are the ones with enough money to join.
