I noticed that different school districts in Austin offer different salaries for teachers. What are the major differences and similarities between districts? I am moving to Austin (Steiner Ranch area) and I wanted to know the inside scoop on the different districts before accepting a job. Any help or opinions would be appreciated. Thanks!

I'm not very familiar with some of the outlying smaller districts, but overall, the "richer" districts pay higher salaries. Austin ISD is largest and the quality of schools varies widely. Eanes ISD serves the upscale Westlake and West Austin neighborhoods. Pflugerville, Round Rock, and Leander ISDs serve the suburban neighborhoods and are considered better schools, especially Round Rock, but with Leander threatening to take over its lead. Del Valle serves a small pocket of East Austin, which is more rural than suburban. I'm not that familiar with Lake Travis, Hays, Wimberly, etc...though those seem to be "up and coming" outlying areas.
Just my impressions...

Default Pflugerville ISD

This school system has continued to decline in the quality of its product over the last several years, primarily due to the influx of home buyers purchasing the less expensive home "values" in Hooterville. That, along with the substantial decline in the quality level of the school system administrators (real or perceived) due to a lack of common sense and poor people skills, has made this school system a loser (just my opinion - check out test scores, school achievement records, etc.)

Steiner Ranch is in Leander ISD and is also close to Lake Travis ISD. Both have competitive salaries and are nice districts to work in.
