Austin rates in top 10 lowest crime rates for cities over 500,000

CQ Press: City Crime Rankings 2009

Unfortunately, this ranking doesn't differentiate between violent crime (Austin has lower crime rates) and property crime (Austin has higher crime rates).

I've heard that 'city' ratings really aren't that useful in determining crime safety of a METRO area.

City Boundaries can be moved to suit the needs of the city (to make them look good). And also certain crimes can be labelled differently. I remember reading that somewhere...can't find the specific link now though...sorry.

Always look for the murder rate as it's the hardest to 'fudge'.
Or so I've heard....

Etc. Can't find the site that specifically talks about the tricks they used and how to see through them though.
