I like most of them. We like Lake Travis, except on holidays like 4th of July, Labor or Memorial day because it's closest. We like Buchanan because it's not a madhouse and it's the lake we go to on the Holidays we avoid for Lake Travis. We also like LBJ, despite the fact that it's smaller and narrower.
Lake Austin is also smaller and narrower, but the water is a lot colder here than at LBJ. We still have yet to try Inks or Canyon. My neighbor loves Canyon Lake.

There are other lakes in the area that are pretty small but people still take their boats out on them and those would be Lake Georgetown, Granger, and Bastrop. I like to think of them as good waterski practice lakes. They tend to be better fishing lakes.

I have been on a boat on Lake Travis, Buchanan, Inks, LBJ, and Austin.

They each have their pluses and minuses. It really depends one what you want to do and when.

Summer weekends can be less fun on Travis because of the boat traffic. If you have a 22ft Cobalt that won't matter much but you won't find smooth water to ski. Holiday weekends are to be avoided unless you want to see and be seen on a big boat or you plan to party in Devil's Cove. Because Travis is 65 miles long - it can be fun to just cruise.

Buchanan is never crowded. It is a more wide open lake so it can be choppy at times from wind.

Austin is narrow and a favorite of skiers because of shelter from wind. But it is cold and you have be very attentive. If you are pulling a skier - you need to watch out for him/her.

LBJ is nice too, just not very big.
