Search the threads. Our unemployment is a tad over 7%.

Default For the last time...

Austin is not drowning in jobs. There are tons of retails stores which have popped up, but there has also been massive influx ever since Katrina, L.A. exodus, Michigan, or whatever disaster of the month. You'd also be competing with over 100,000 college students in an area where employers are wringing their hands with delight.

Disregard unemployment figures, they are being distorted in many parts of the country anyway. Texas did not lose quite as many jobs, but there have been losses. It also depends greatly on what type of "job" one is seeking. The competition here is absurd for a city of this size.

Keep in mind that real estate is a major industry here which drives much of the advertising. Many people sell their overpriced houses elsewhere to move here without finding a job first, so the area is quite saturated.

What line of work?

Minimum wage retail - not at all.

Entry-level architect - good luck.
