My husband and I are considering moving to the area. We have two young children, one in elementary and one in preschool. We absolutely need great schools and want a friendly suburban community to live in.

I see lots of posts about people looking for great neighborhoods in the 400s, but we are looking more in the 150s to 200s. Does a great neighborhood with great schools exist in the area.

Also, we do not necessarily mind having to fix a few things on a home. I am quite hands on myself. We wouldn't want a total fixer upper, and would want something with some resale value.

I guess I am just wondering is does this place exist in Austin?

Do you have an idea of where you would be working? You will probably want to start you house hunting closest to where you will be working because Austin can be a challenge to commute around during rush hours. Round Rock ISD, Leander ISD, and Pflugerville ISD are well regarded. You will be able to find a nice home in all of these areas in the $200K range. Southwest Austin is also very desirable. You will be able to find homes in Southwest Austin in the $200K range.

shankaupas, would Anderson Mill (RRISD) or Anderson Mill West (LISD) be possible in that range? The parks are great and the schools are excellent from elementary through high school. I thought of Anderson Mill b/c the homes are older, and people tend to fix them up rather than move.

Absolutely. There are 20 homes in Anderson Mill ranging in price from $140K up to $239K. And there are 27 homes in Anderson Mill West ranging in price from $100K to $250K. Most of the homes in these neighborhoods are at or below $200K.
