They certainly can be. Before Frontline and Advantix, my dogs of years ago suffered greatly. I now use Advantix which repels fleas, ticks, and mosquitoes.

My neighbor told me last night her dogs have fleas, so she finally treated them. Left untreated, I truly believe dogs will have a severe problem.

From what I hear, some of the products work well on some dogs and not well for others. I have never used anything but Advantix; it works wonders on my large dogs.

I think it greatly helps if you're home dose not have carpets. I noticed my dog got better after moving into my new home with hardwood flooring. They nest and lay eggs in carpets, not that area rugs are bad. My cat spends each night outside and she has never had fleas, maybe becaues of her thick fur.

They're pretty bad out where I am. We tried some kind of Hartz product this time and it's worked pretty well, but before that, he needed a bath about every week because they'd be all over him again in a few days.

Default Fleas

I am not in Texas (yet) but when we had a bad flea problem we sprayed the yard and the inside of the house...and treated the pets with advantix and that did the trick for the entire flea season.

Just my two cents on the flea thing...
