You can't spin that one. That is beautiful and you know it.

SPI's only competition in the US is Hawaii and peninsular Florida. The Florida Panhandle has may have blinding white sands, but the winters there get too cold and there are more problems with nutrient discharge.
That's why "the season" for Panhandle of Florida is March to September.

The "season" of South Florida is November to May.

Oddly enough their seasons are both 7 months long.

Agreed. I've been on the beaches at Panama City & Destin. Very nice & white.
I've been on the black volcanic sand beach in eastern Taiwan. Very nice & black.
I've been on the beaches in Puerto Rico, Panama (the country) The USVI, & the Bahamas. Very nice & white to beige.
SPI is between them all in color and just as pleasing, IMO.

Lotta beach snobs around.

Exactly my point, both Florida and SPI have beautiful beaches.

Yes.

But the quality & clarity of the Texas waters vary from bleah (Galveston most of the time) to good. Port A is ok and SPI good, but not up to Florida's standards.

Anyway, the OP should visit SPI with their kids at least once. Yeah, it's a longer drive and especially so when you turn south off I-37 towards Kingsville. Lotta nada through the King Ranch until reaching The Valley. Let them watch movies on their "devices". If they are really little, they'll probably just sleep most of the way.

In August, we plan on visiting SPI. My colleague just returned and loves it, comparing it to Florida. We're renting a 2/2 near the water. I've been to eastern Florida and the beaches don't look any better than SPI. Now other parts of Florida, like Destin, is another story.

I'd rather drive 6 hours than fly. It's cheaper and if the kids can get their beach time and enjoy themselves, I'm fine with that.

I think you missed the point. Completely. SPI beaches are not similar to the Florida Gulf Coast, in any way, shape, or form.

Nobody's saying that. It's an apples/oranges thing.

It really isn't worth the hassle & expense to fly down to SPI from Austin, what with airport security/waiting, then renting a car. Plus you can take more of your own beach stuff in your vehicle - particularly a truck.

Laughably false statement for every aspect outside of sand color.
