I would guess South of 71 & East of I30. (or near the corner of 183 S. & I30) There is nothing out there but empty farmland, wobbly boxes & mobile meth labs.

But it's within 10 miles of the airport & 15 miles from world class BBQ.

Actually there is a subdivision right there along with Del Valle Jr and High Schools, but you're right that if you go further east towards wolf lane there isn't much.

Yeah it's all good. It's not like we're not in an $11 billion budgetary hole right now or anything.

The Super Bowl in Dallas is getting $31M from that same state fund.

Same point applies. We're this deep in the crap heap yet we have plenty of taxpayer cash to toss around for corporate welfare.

There was an article in the New York Times quoting someone from up there that this deal 'isnt set in stone yet'. Hinting that New York state could make a stronger offer still.

Hopefully thats not the case as now I'm sold on the whole idea of F1 being here. Bernie Ecclestone isnt beyond announcing a deal to get someone in New York to sweeten the pot however. He has that kind of reputation.

Ecclestone is a maniac. So I could see he changing the deal somehow.

But news is developing quickly. They apparently have a site selected and a course designer.

Austin-area site obtained for US Grand Prix (http://www.statesman.com/news/texas/austin-area-site-obtained-for-us-grand-prix-711161.html?printArticle=y - broken link)

Just saw a report that a 700+ acre site in Austin has been secured though no price was given. They also said the designer of the track has been picked. Looks like no speculative gravy train for real estate holders.

Thats good news I imagine once the land is bought and the track starts being built that it will be harder for Ecclestone to monkey around with things.

Just saw a blog that reported the site is 800+ acres and a few miles from the airport. They also said that water and wasterwater rights have already been granted.

We'll have to wait for confirmation.......
