I wonder if CNN has opened an Austin office. Seriously, they have been running a lot of different stories based out of Austin in the past few months.

I do like the picture they used. So many of these lists use the same (usually outdated) view of the skyline from just south of the river.

Heh, I went to look at the aritcle just to see the picture now .

I have no idea if we are a top 5 city. Since top 5 is relative, that could be competely possible since someone has to be in the top 5. What is a little disingenuous is that they make top 5 sound like there are jobs falling out of the sky, which is absolute job quantity and not relative job quantity (like a Top 5 implies).

We have hired 5 new people this year, though .

There was a traffic jam on 360 at 12:45 today at least a quarter of the cars with out of state plates. Lets keep promoting Austin and maybe we can have one perpetual traffic jam all day long!

Well, if only one quarter had out of state plates, that means 3 quarters were here in Texas. That gives us a 75% chance that the accident was caused by an Austinite.

One thing I'm curious about is what methodology CNN used to come up with these rankings. Also, I don't know if they really said where the growth is taking place. Right now, the healthcare sector is one of the only areas of the economy experiencing tremendous growth, but I don't know if Austin is really considered a hot destination for an aspiring doctor when Houston and its famed medical district is only 3.5 hours away.

They are essentially re-reporting what Kiplinger reported last week.

Thank you for your voice of reason. What else can we blame on those out of state transplants? Wait I know - how many of those plates were from CA?

Austin may be tops in US surveys but cities like Vancouver (BBC NEWS | Business | Vancouver is 'best place to live') are tops in international ones. I've been there and it has a lot to offer: good park system, well run city gov't, good overall planning/city layout with everything from single family homes to tons of high rise condos, low crime, lots of water, rich in ethnic diversity, and quality sushi dinners from $7. I say Austin should look to cities like it to make the quality of life even better here.

First of all, CNN is without a doubt the WORST of all major news reporting stations. Secondly, most people living in Austin don't realize how much of their tax dollars went to funding that BOGUS article on a truly BOGUS news station.
