Haven't been here long, and I be upset if there is already a thread on this, but I thought we should all put in a few personal pictures of Perth so the whole world can see it
I took all of these, from late last year, to ~March, ~Late March, then the city ones on the 5/4/10 (today)
Some of the city pictures are mainly for the city forum im on, because that building being constructed is the BHP Tower, 244m high, was 315m or something, but they removed the spire. Western Australia - SkyscraperCity
(Posting photos on this forum has me confounded! why can't you just 'paste'??)
Did you post take Tropical? I was about to say I didn't think the Bankwest/R&I tower was around in 1988, but apparently it was. I guess I don't remember a time I can't remember it, but for some reason I thought it was built like 1991 or so. Maybe I'm confusing it with Central Park. The city actually doesn't look much different to now, which is surprisingly because so much has been built since then. In terms of scrapers the 70s and 80s was the real boom time though. You should check out some even older pics of Perth: the Battye collection at the state library has lots of old books and microfiches on Perth from yesterday, the oldest photo is from 1840! The ones from 1948 and 1975 are also very interesting. Thanks for sharing!
LOL! You're right, it hasn't!! The WankBest building is the predominant feature even back then. Good old Bondy eh? I've been up in the 2nd from the top floor and seen how ostentatious it is. Amazing view except you can actually feel it sway from up there.
Perth has one of those skylines that has people saying "Is that it?!"

You gotta store them in a place like Photobucket and then you can use the direct link url to paste them in here. That's the only way I know how to do it.

I am amazed at how green Perth is in your pics during late-March,
considering that March appears to still be during Perth's summer-drought period, according to precip stats.
Appearance-wise, (beauty or lack of)
as a resident of southern Ontario, it seems silly to complain about Perth's dryness if it usually looks like that in summer.
(no different than our dry-ish summer spells )
I am amazed at how green Perth is in your pics during late-March,
Anything really green in summer is likely reticulated (automatic sprinklers). Some trees are just green anyway. Perth does have quite a few green spaces (parks, reserves, sports ovals, etc.), mostly in the older areas, and these are always taken care of by Councils.
We have a great park near us, a lot larger than they're allowing in newer areas, and it's always very green because they water it a few times a week from bore water. And feed the grass. The more natural nature reserves - just a large area of land reserved from development, with native trees and plants - aren't so lush looking during the summer. Same for verges and boulevards along the road - if they're not watered, they're quite dead and parched looking for a few months of the year. Some homeowners don't bother trying to keep their front lawns alive in the hotter months, as it's often a hopeless, expensive battle.
