Well they put him in to get out of the pokies deal with Wilkie. Now they have lost Slipper which means they don't have a majority; they will need to use the acting Speaker's vote to pass the budget. Oakshott is even saying it's getting bad and he would support a no confidence motion in the speaker if he came back before these allegations had been resolved. Then there is the Craig Thomson affair which is simmering away (the HSU was a dirty little union run like fiefdom) just below the surface. They are on the precipice, ready to go over and it can't come soon enough. This government needs to go before it does any more damage. A strong political system needs strong political parties and the ALP is on the way to becoming completely irrelevant.

cheers...

Just caught up on Slipper's sordid accusations..

The acting speaker is the guy who crossed from lib to labor?

They had such an opportunity to win back the Australian party. Ideally they pull the pin on Julia, which hopefully forces a change in leadership with abott. (?)

No, Slipper is the guy who went from unloved-Lib to Labor. The acting Speaker is Anna Burke, who is from the ALP.

The worst bit is that all this was apparently known about Slipper, there's supposedly a video of him lying on a bed half naked "spooning" a male staffer having climbed in his hotel window and the urinating out the window. That's the worst bit that they made the deal with no regard for the office of the Speaker it was only done so they could reneg on the pokies deal.

Gillard has to be a dead woman walking. Everything she touches falls apart.

okay. Slippery slipper indeed! I just read that SMS transcript... wow!

One article made me laugh "its not a big deal! not a big deal he is married to a woman who serves as an anglican priest and is having extra marital affairs with young male staffers".

The pokies deal = ridiculous, unworkable... {sensing a theme here} ?

This was a leader...And a guy with a plan. What we have today is due to him, IMO. I would have paid to watch him live!

It's like watching Viv Richards decimate a bowling attack.

Paul Keating Attacks The Cultural Cringe - YouTube

I particularly like around the 4:20 mark where he sticks the boot into the Brits.

I've heard that from a lot of people in the finance industry. Lots of Love for PK.

His "recession we had to have" wasn't his finest moment to joe public...

A plan.. thats what they need! and one that has some sense to it!

He's what we need now. We've got serious productivity issues. We've had no productivity growth in 10 years. It's the reason Australia is becoming so expensive. Low unemployment + no productivity growth = wages shooting up and cost of living.

I'm at the point where I almost feel sorry for Gillard. She's been pretty atrocious at the job. Must be Abbott's fault

Who do you reckon will slither into the PM position? Shorten? Rudd? Swan? Not that it would make any difference.

LOl @ Slither.
I'm not sure I feel sorry for her.Although a minority govt, that depends on independents isn't going to be able to do too much...
haha. I'm sure he'd blame her if the tables were turned!

Oh gosh. None! The news today is that Rudd would'nt go near it now, its that far gone. I don't think they have anyone that the public will support.
The media is saying.... the ALP can expect results on parr with QLD recent election.
