I grew up (early childhood) in the 70's, and remember Romper Room, Humphrey B. Bear as well as Playschool well.
I also had younger siblings - who were still watching these shows - long after I had outgrown them.
Mr Squiggle was on every show from memory, and was a segment I always enjoyed - even if I can't draw for s&%$ myself.
The upside down bit, as well as side on bit, always got me however - my visual spatial skills have never been the same to this day!

Never heard of 'Romper Room' (I was born in 1986). Had no idea Humphrey was that old. Of course I watched Playschool religiously (loved the old opening, the old ones are always better) and remember going to see George from Playschool when I was about 7.

I thought Mr. Squiggle was it's own show? At least when I was a kid.

I can recall moments of watching Romper Room in 1986.
I think they had it on TV here until at least 1987; till I grew out of it or got distracted by other shows?
I wouldn't be surprised if different countries aired Romper Room in different years.

From reading the description it sounds like this show I vaguely remember on the ABC. This must've been way back in 1990-91, it was a Canadian show and there was like a school teacher with a bunch of kids (of different ethnicities, of course) who played games and taught them things about nature. I remember a scene when it was autumn and the kids were in the woods singing 'O Canada' while they hoisted the Maple Leaf. It stuck out because I realised Canada was different from America (I was maybe 4). I think it must've been one of my first exposures to Canada. We used to get alot of shows produced by 'TV Ontario or Quebec' when I was a kid. No idea what the show was though.

As to Romper Room, I do remember the bee, "punch, punch, punch the ball", & Bend & Stretch ... Reach for the Stars.... and then crack it when she never, ever said my name at the end.

There were US-made Romper Room shows as well as versions made in other countries. If you saw a Canadian one it was likely the one that was broadcast nationally on CTV in Canada and produced by CKCO TV in Kitchener, Ontario. It was mostly hosted by Miss Fran (Fran Pappert).

Here is Miss Fran today:

Interesting that you would see kids' shows made in Quebec down in Australia. Most of them are/were made in French for the local market only, and I am not aware of them being dubbed in English. Except maybe for cartoons like Caillou: Caillou | The Official Home Page for Caillou

Although there are/were some kids' TV shows produced in Quebec in English as well. Often it is to take advantage of tax credits, which are available regardless of production language...
