Compared to Clarke's which was like being hit between the ears with a mallet? No.

I'm just curious, are there also other "accents" that Australians can also notice?

I guess so, I'm sure there are some Australians on here who can answer your question (I'm British).

Ah, I see. Yeah, we'll just wait for the reply. Just curious.

Australians I speak to can usually tell I'm British though few of them are able to identify my accent as anything other than English, which means they know I'm not Scottish, Welsh etc.

British and Scottish are quite simple to tell a part.

I ran into a nice bloke fresh of the place from Auckland a few weeks ago, would have never guessed he was a kiwi until he told me. I could hardly hear any accent at all.

I feel the same way at times when speaking with Canadians from "border" Ontario.

I don't enjoy it if it's too bogan, but otherwise I rather like the Aussie accent and find it attractive, which was great when I lived there last year. That said, I think it's a bit of a stereotype here in America (which is based somewhat on a sample bias of young, traveling Aussies that come through) that Australians are attractive, laid-back, and fun, so that might be why many Americans take a liking to it.
