I would choose:

1. Gold Coast
2. Sydney
3. Melbourne

Don't worry about the Melbourne vs Sydney thing, go to both. Be sure to get down to Bondi and Coogee beaches in Sydney, hang around after your day at the beach and hit the nearby pubs which are huge and full after a summer day. Head up the coast to Byron Bay, spend plenty of time on the Gold Coast particularly around Broadbeach and Surfers Paradise, keep heading north with a stop at Mooloolaba and Noosa, head north, stop at Airlie Beach then make sure you get as far as Cairns. You'll party all the way up the coast and I'm sure you won't be alone.
