THEY have been around for decades, wearing a mullet, black jeans and listening to heavy metal, and now the Oxford English Dictionary (OED) officially recognises bogans.
The word bogan has been included in the dictionary's list of new word entries for June, sandwiched between bling and bustler.
The OED, which calls itself the definitive record of the English language, defines a bogan as an Australian and New Zealand colloquial "depreciative term for unfashionable, uncouth, or unsophisticated person, esp. of low social status".
The origin of the word is unclear, but it may have originated in Australia. (ya think?)
In honour of this momentous occasion, I would like to nominate someone who I believe could easily be crowned The Hugest Bogan in Australia.
My nominee is one David Allen Baker Baldwin, currently residing in jail in Queensland. What follows is a transcript of one of his hearings for attempted murder. Read right to the bottom.

They are not entertaining if they are your neighbours.
Bogans will always be ""westies"' to me, and I am originally from the southwestern suburbs of Sydney, but not from that particular subculture.

It seems the word ""Bogan"" and ""Feral"" are interchangeable these days, as defining bogans has gradually degenerated to mean the lowest, as well as often unpleasant as well as uncultured, members of society.
/\ Cause you live in elizabeth or salisbury, SA. My reco is next time someone calls you one for being kiwi para in your neighborhood, do what african americans and gays in the US have done with the N word and the Q word. Use the B word yourself to diminish the negative connotation
