Most would probably give this award to Burke and Wills, but I think the efforts of Paul Edmund (Pawel) Strzelecki in discovering and naming the highest peak on mainland Australia deserves a nomination.

Strzelecki was the first European to explore the Alpine regions of NSW and Victoria, and thought it appropriate that the highest peak on the mainland be named after Polish patriot and American revolutionary war figure Tadeusz Kosciuszko.

OK so far.

But, Strzelecki actually named Australia’s second highest mountain after the Polish hero. Nearby Mount Townsend was actually higher. The good folk of the NSW government corrected this error by simply swapping the names around, so that Mount Kosciuszko was finally the tallest mountain.

It also appears that Strzelecki misspelt Kosciuszko, resulting in the mountain being named “Kosciusko” for more than a century. Again the good folk of the NSW government eventually corrected this error in the 1990s, requiring the replacement of plaques, road signs and other markers. It also required renaming of a range of streets, roads and other features across Australia as local councils sought to avoid the embarrassment of having to live with the trauma of incorrect spelling.

So, for the big picture concept I’d give Strzelecki 9 out of 10. For follow through and attention to detail, I think he deserves “fail - epic”.

Any other nominations?

John Howard deliberately butchering the 1999 Republic Referendum, and making it considerably more difficult to change the National Flag.

Julia Gillard, Kevin Rudd, Steve Bracks, John Brumby. All of these need to be thrown into an active volcano.

Maybe it's not about voting labor, and more to do with despising Abbott?

Anyone that bases their vote on who the leader is of a certain party, rather than taking into account past performance and future policies of the party, is a dead beat moron that should not be allowed to vote.

And people of means and good character should get 2 votes each. It's only fair. Ask the Texan.
