So I'm thinking of studying abroad in Australia in July and I have pretty much narrowed it down to two universities in Melbourne, La Trobe and Deakin. Does anyone have advice/experience on which university is better? I'm from the US and studying Business/Finance. I'm also wondering, in general, what the gay life in Melbourne is like.

I have also looked at Curtin University in Perth but I haven't really considered it too much because of it being out of the way and it doesn't seem to have as good of a business program(correct me if I'm wrong!)

I went to Curtin, Curtin is well known for it's business school. Probably just as good as the other two, but I moved from Perth to Melbourne and I prefer living in Melbourne.

Both those universities are same, same. As for Gay life it's the same as straight life and all other lifestyles. Just use social networking to meet like minded groups.

Can't comment on the Melbourne schools since business was not my field of study, but Curtin's business school is considered very good. With regards to the distance, what are you looking to be close to? You're coming from the other side of the world, so will the extra distance across the country make that much difference? Of course if you want to travel to the other East Coast cities on a regular basis then fair enough, otherwise I don't see what difference it makes.

Lifestyle depends on what you like. If you're a surfer, beachgoer, or general outdoorsy type then Perth is probably better. If you are more into culture, especially with a European or artsy vibe, then Melbourne is better.

If you are on,y doing a semester abroad, it should. Ot matter. Your degree will be from your home Uni and employers aren't necessarily impressed by people who spent a semester abroad.
