Is the queen of the United Kingdom being the head of Australia and New Zealand makes you feel a lack of the Australian or the New Zealander sovereignty? Or it doesn't matter, not every Aussie or kiwi think about it.
My parents and relatives are fierce Republicans, and being of Irish Catholic stock I guess it's natural for me to feel the same way. I suppose if had to vote one way or the other I would vote for a Republic, but the sovereignty issue isn't something that bothers me personally. The Queen doesn't have any real power over us at all (at least I don't think she does lol), it's really just more of a symbolic thing which keeps us British in a sense. This is something that really agitates some people, but really, I think there are much more important things to worry about

It does not bother me if a Queen lives half a world away still Queen of this country. I don't really think about it and it does not really interest me with the republican or monarchist debate. Yet I be much more interested to hear if Australia is to be a republic, how much powers the President will have.

The vote was a referendum to decide just how the population would vote for being a republic. Note the republican movement still, after all this time cannot agree what model to choose.
The monarch has no power; the real head of state is the Governor General appointed by the government of the day.
The monarchy is essentially an empty and absurd piece of theatre inflicted on the country. Absurd because princes, princesses and queens don’t belong in a democratic society; they belong in story books read by young children. What next, unicorns and dragons? Its also absurd because they are all foreigners; from a country that few Australians have any, or any meaningful attachment to.
The flag. I think there is a reason why we also fly the Aboriginal flag. Even private businesses like hotels where I live fly it next to the national flag.

The yes vote was split between people who wanted a dysfunctional system like the US has or an appointed head of state.
