In fact Melbourne, Sydney etc are in the wettest, cloudiest part of the Australia, yet still get decent sun. Perth, Darwin and Brisbane are the sunniest three cities. While winter is the wet season in Perth it still gets decent sun.
Actually, most areas in Australia are sunny almost all year long. But Tennant Creek and Northern Territory are the sunniest places out there. You can find cheap places through the web.
