I'm moving from the USA and considering AU and NZ. I like that there seems to be more sun all year long.

Also, are there cheap places where I could stay for a trial move such as hostels or churches (any denomination)

Much thanks!

Can you get a working holiday visa? some employers may provide accommodation if you're lucky. Otherwise try backpackers.

Have you got a visa arranged? I wouldn't plan on turning up at immigration on a tourist visa and telling them you're staying in a church because you have no money for your "trial move".

Obviously Australia over NZ if you're looking for sun. Half of Australia is desert, so is obviously sunny most of the time. In fact Melbourne, Sydney etc are in the wettest, cloudiest part of the Australia, yet still get decent sun. Perth, Darwin and Brisbane are the sunniest three cities. While winter is the wet season in Perth it still gets decent sun.

Actually, most areas in Australia are sunny almost all year long. But Tennant Creek and Northern Territory are the sunniest places out there. You can find cheap places through the web.
