Well like western Canadian cities, nothing is going on most of the time. When I was there it seemed to completely empty out. It is very boring. I didn't feel that happened in other Australian cities. The nightlife was very bogan oriented, like something out of Geelong. I guess it felt kind of like a mini Sydney in the middle of nowhere. It did not seem to be like Melbourne, or Hobart, or Cairns or Brisbane. That said, I liked Perth, and wouldn't mind living there.
Would you say Melbourne feels a lot like Toronto in Canada? I've read/heard of several comparisons.
Really? I just visited Melbourne last week, and I was struck by the similarities with Toronto. Maybe it's the streetcar/tram systems. And the flatness. They have very similar layouts and looks overall, although Melbourne is a bit more modern and has more green space for sure. And I found Melbourne had a similar mix of big business/hippy that Toronto does, while Vancouver is just 100% hippy.
The whole world has become more American. This not a bad thing. With globalization, the Internet, and faster-cheaper travel, people are very well connected. America, as well is becoming more like the rest of the world. This is inevitable. Things change. Americans also reminisce about how things were long ago, as well.
Yes when I have travelled I have also noticed, much of the world has become more American. Yes Americans also reminisce about how things were long ago. As an American I can tell everyone. I most certainly reminisce when we didn't have mass shootings every week. I'm very ashamed of my country over this and the fact, that we could prevent some of these shootings. Yet we do absolutely nothing. Even our President is completely frustrated over this horrible issue. So I hope Australia and the rest of the world won't become so American, that they become as sick as some of our society has become.
I think the best thing a country can do for itself and its citizens. Is to retain as much of its culture for as long as it can. Not try to copy or emulate another country and its cultures, way of life or whatever. Be true to one's own country and identity.
Why do we have Americans telling us what Australia is like? But anyway it might be true that some parts of Australia are becoming Americanized, take the NRL for example, it's basically a cheesy tryhard rip off of the NFL (it's really embaressing) the only difference is that in the NFL the players make dogs fight each other and in the NRL the players make dogs give them oral sex.

The 107 year old game from England is ripping off the NFL......
