Navy lawyer wants Breaker Morant review - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)

A RAN lawyer is wanting to look into the famous Boer War case again, to establish if Harry 'Breaker' Morant and Joesph Handcock were actually given a fair trial, for the shooting of Boer POW's and weren't just treated as scapegoats .

I agree, they were probably sentenced unfairly? but Morant did admit to a war crime and was punished appropriately for the era.

Hmm, I reckon this lawyer just wants to get himself a mini-series a la 'JAG'.
And, what Huckleberry said. Where does it end, really?

it's not that they're applying a modern social conscious to it, but apparently the lawyer and historian (i think that's what they are) are arguing that they didn't receive a fair trial even by the standards of the day. The Breaker Morant story gets a bit of coverage because it's a well known piece of Australian history.

We have done it retrospectively for other historical events and figures so I have no problem with them doing it for Breaker.
