All the best to everyone having a bet today, in "the race that stops the nation".
This is one thing that brings everyone together, at work, school etc.
It is what Australia is all about.

Best be getting a picture and some sense out of everyone now while they're all still looking fresh in their finery, Derek.

Things can get awful ugly come 5pm.

I've just sent the form guide to MM and told him he has til 2.30pm to pick his winner. I gave him as much background info as my limited once a year punting can offer .

Sadly no hat or chicken and champers brekkie for me this year but I'm just perusing the silks now for a colour combo I like.

I haven't bet on the Melbourne Cup for years. I never seem to be able to pick a winner.

I had Viewed, Alcopop, Daffodil and Allez Wonder. I ALMOST, ALMOST picked Shocking. Story of my life!

So far MM has done the best out of us. His pick Master O'Reilly who came in 4th. (of course the TAB don't hand out cash for that BUT still! )

I put $100 on Alcopop just for fun. Turned out to be a bit of a fizzer in the end but I'm not really disappointed.

Just been watching the Fashions On The Field. (I know you blokes won't be all that interested.)

Gotta say she looked nice and all but I'm mystified as to how she won.

It seemed a pretty staid choice to me.

I know I'll be shot down as a snob, but Melbourne Cup Day seems to me to be an excuse for bogans to dress up (but not act) as wealthy people.
