The humidity in the city (when outdoors) was absolutely awful today being very oppressive, drips and drops everywhere

City recorded 32oC, airport 36oC, Olympic Park 39oC and 42oC at Penrith & Campbelltown.

Had mid afternoon storms but didn't deliver much in terms of rain in the city, except for the North Shore, a house was hit by lightning and caught fire. Widespread damage from falling trees and thousands of homes blacked out.

It got cooler for a while but has gotten warmer again - currently 32oC in the city and there is no seabreeze so the air is hot. Minimum tonight is expected to be 24oC.

39 degrees C expected over the basin on Sunday with a nasty blowdryer hot wind, bring on the cooler spell from Monday with 22oc expected and Tuesday 21oC.

Thank god for my air conditioned home, a pleasant and cool 18oC at the moment First time I've had to turn the air conditioner on since March.

January (25th - 28th) 1960 saw 4 consecutive days over 39oC for Ob Hill including 2 days over 40oC - a record and still stands today as well as being the only heatwave on record.

Getting some of that heat overhere,

Temperatures into the 30s being reported.

Oamrau in North Otago went from 30 to 12 in just one hour, Timaru about 2 hours north currently sits on 30c waiting for the front to arrive.

Down here in Invercargill, it was 20c at 3am, then came the big winds with the cold change.
