Believe me, I've heard my share of ignorant comments from Aussies when I lived there, the difference is I used my brains and did not jump to making generalizations about an entire country...
That's fair enough. There's ignorance everywhere you go. Not just in the United States. Perhaps i was a little harsh.
This has all made me so nostalgic -(searches for misty eyed icon but finds none ) ...best xmas I ever had was in NH...we spent Dec 25th tubing down a snowy hill, stopped for a traditional lunch, then went for a sleigh ride. It was all very...."Dr Zhivago", and "White Xmas" (as in, the movie).
(No revolting reds though, so to speak).
As much as I hate the cold (and it wasnt nearly so bad when running about, having good insulation and the amazing festive atmosphere), I'd swap the rather mundane aust xmas for one of those any day.
Iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiim dreaming of a whiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiite christmaaaas..lalalalalalaaaaaaLAAAAAA!! Ahem. Pardon. Carry on.
Aside from the the things others have mentioned, we always have a game of backyard cricket. Makes you hot and sweety to enjoy a swim and down a few more xxxx.
This year christmas will be spent in the Mountains of South Korea! Fingers crossed for my first ever white christmas! (Spent a few in London, no snow) might have to give the traditional game of cricket the flick however
CC normally around christmas time the hottest capital city (by temperature) will be either Melbourne Adelaide or Perth.

Just to test my knowledge, cricket is a bit like baseball is here, only the bat is flat and the rules are slightly different??
Everytime I hear of it I think of croquet.. But I know it isnt that..

Yep correct for the most part.
Try to imagine a version of baseball with no strike or foul zones (hitting the ball behind you is a valid shot) and you score a run not by running around the dimond but instead running to the pitchers mound! Good fun with the family, do a search for Beach Cricket on You Tube and you will hopefully get the picture.
Melbourne is not even remotely the hottest capital on Christmas, the last 5 christmases here have been overcast with crappy 19-21C temps
Darwin, Brisbane and Perth are most likely to be hot on Christmas.
Still 4 weeks or so away.
Depends which way the wind is blowing on the day, doesn't it?
This is statistically a random result.
Although, having spent probably the majority of my christmases on the central coast of NSW, we normally get a "cool change" just in time for the big day.
Regarding the "Australian Jingle Bells" song,
which capital is most likely to have Christmas on a scorching summer's day?
I'm thinking Darwin wouldn't be:
quite warm, but too muggy to feel "scorching," quite cloudy and maybe stormy.
A scorcher at Christmas would be found south of the Tropic. Probably Perth's the most likely, along with Adelaide. Last ten years I've been here, about half of our Chrissies have been mid 30's and up. 42 a couple of years ago. First one in '99 was near 40. I remember that one, as we'd just moved into this house with no aircon, and shockingly no ceiling insulation. Roasted the turkey with two fans going, me spritzing myself with water, and downing buckets of water, beer and anything else cold and liquid. Installed insulation, then the next summer was a bit hotter but far more tolerable, especially with aircon.
Thank you Vichel, may i should have put it that way - "A scorher at christmas would normally be found south of the tropic". Perth has had it over the last few years, it could be melbourne or adelaide this year? Having a look however, Melbourne has indeed had some crappy weather over the last few years!
Brisbane and Darwin have fairly reliable temperatures, christmas will almost always be between 28-35c, days in the high 30's or early 40's are far more common in the southern capitals. We hit 36 hear a few days ago, and thats the hottest november day we have ever had.
