We have to get rid of this ****, it really is oppressing our way of life by its relentless micromanagement and nanny state bull**** hellbent on eroding every possible freedom in this country.

The posts here have made me think of this.

YouTube - Double Take - Kevin Rudd's The Fear FULL VERSION

I'm all for keeping profits here, but the reason we avoided most of the global credit crisis, is because our Mining industry isn't as highly taxed and is able to be very competitive. Ruddimus Prime could be shooting us in the foot, with this "super profits tax"?

I don't think it'll directly result in higher costs of living as we in Australia don't purchase much from the resources sector. It will likely stump economy growth somewhat, though.

What I find most ironic is that, as kangaroo farmer mentioned, it was essentially the resource sector that helped keep Australia afloat during the earlier financial crisis. Had it not, Rudd would've taken a massive dive in approval ratings much like what happened to President Obama. PM Rudd then thanks the resource sector by taxing it more.

Anyway..

Speaking to the media ahead of a speech to a public-policy forum on pension reform, Mr Flaherty said overnight that the continued decline in corporate taxes in Canada was a “great attraction for investment”.

Mr Flaherty said he still needed to closely review the tax proposed by Australia's government to fully understand how it worked. Like Australia, Canada has a very large and active resource industry.

Kevin Rudd’s Labor government announced plans to make mining giants liable for a tax on profits made from the exploitation of non-renewable resources. The extra revenue will be used to lower other corporate taxes.

Mr Flaherty noted that Canada had been reducing its corporate tax rate, and corporations in most of Canada would face a combined 25 per cent tax rate by 2012.

He said the “easiest thing” for a politician to do is raise taxes, which immediately increases revenues, but limits growth.

Interesting, the Canadian comment there, since this same sort of stupidity was done in Canada. First by Trudeau, then by the Alberta Premier a few years ago, both screwing Alberta, with disastrous results.

Who the hell is this pathetic turd to decide how much profit a company should make? Declaring a profit above 6% a "super" profit. Envy of the "rich" - communism 101. He goes on about giving Australians a "fairer share of those profits" .... lol! how dumb do you have to be to believe that?????

Better super - $100k more, apparently, for someone 30 years old today. In today's money, that'll be an extra $10k. Whoop de doo! In the meantime, his proposed tax has wiped thousands off many people's investments today. Gawd, what a disaster this moron is. Absolute disaster.

Update:

Internet filter, study, GA research

The more people find out about the filter, the more they are against it. Which is no surprise to most of us here, who noted the mis-information that the govt was attempting with this little gem.

"Christian groups have been vociferous supporters of the filter because they believe it will protect children from illegal content such as child pornography on the internet. However others argue that the measure could prove ineffective and open the door to censorship of other important non-illegal material."

I was discussing with a friend on this and we wondered on the effect on social change within Australia if sites that the govt deem immoral are blocked ...

Might just be handy scapegoats or a smokescreen - these Christian groups. Making it look like it's just the god-botherers who are behind this and Rudd's just trying to please them. When it's likely more a case of him wanting it for censorship purposes. To stamp out information that makes him look bad, more likely. And heaven knows there's a lot of that! You can buy the media but that great big Internet thing is just too damn free and open. Must drive the little despots of the world nuts.

ha ha!

On another forum I visit, and one particular poster is a bit of a christian nutter ... he proclaimed the govt was doing the right thing to "protect the kids" ....

However, a massive backflip has occurred .. upon him learning that under this filter on anti-abortion sites, images of fetuses aborted would also be blocked ... all of a sudden he sees the problem with this filter
