Thats certainly nothing I have witnessed consistently , you see the odd nut job with a agenda in either Aus or NZ section but they don't usually last long once their posted drivel gets flamed down or taken down.

The thread and post count ratio is what I would expect for each respective country, its a good source of info, I know you won't like the fact it has a NZ section lol.

You spend a lot of time there? I read it a few times and was totally put off by all the "drivel, flaming and take downs." Scary place and too much drama for me, some people obviously enjoy that type of thing though. I honestly don't see the attraction .

All I wanted was information about visas and NZ-Australia shipping companies.

NZ for me. I prefer the landscape and variety of scenery in short distances. I like living by snowcapped mountains, with very dense bush, clear rivers and beaches nearby. My main gripe, are the winters - mossy, moldy, fungisy etc, but I can still have fresh orange juice on a winter day, so it isn't that bad.

Aussie is alright though. Plenty of beautiful areas, and great beaches. I can see myself spending winters somewhere there, a few years down the track.

We've got Tasmania, eastern Victoria and south eastern NSW for that.

Yep, and I've spent several winters in the Snowy Mountains. Beautiful area, but not the same. I live 3 km from the coast, but can be at the snow line in 20 minutes. More extensive here, more accessible, and with more variation in alpine environments.

I'm not into winter sports but I've heard there are resorts in Australia where you can stay on the snow and ski from your chalet, in NZ you have to drive up to the snow?

I did one of those drives on a dry summer day in New Zealand and it scared the crap out of me . You'd have to have some cohones to do it in winter. Much respect

I really like the atmosphere of Australian resorts. living at the resort and being surrounded by snow gums, lodges and bars is very cool.

I've spent many winters living on the mountain at different NZ ski areas, and quite frankly, the bottom of the mountain is the best place to stay, most of the time. When the wind starts blowing, it makes weather on the Aussie resorts look pretty tame. Lack of trees makes it a lot worse as well.

Some of the Canterbury ski areas have a good combination of trees and on mountain lodges, but aren't really run on a big commercial scale. An Australian company had plans to turn Porter Heights into an Australian style resort, with lodges, cross country trails,an ice skating lake, and luges, gondolas etc, but so far nothing has come of it.

The roads are pretty safe, but if you're the nervous type, it might pay not to look over the edge too much.
