Yeah that doesn't surprise me at all......I watched the Race live and he "blew it"..plane n simple, the Canuck ran a flawless "clean" run...
I believe the Judges were all European.
To be quite honest I was "shocked" that the US Bronze Medalist showed more Sportsmanship than a "fellow Commonwealth" Athlete.....seems to go "against the grain"
We've not warmed up to him either. Not surprisingly as he does seem to be a bit of a cold fish. Usually our athletes pump their fists, cry or yell or ... something. He just stands there.
I don't believe his sullen expression is due to losing the Gold as he had the same stone-face when he won Gold at Torino in 2006. There was an article about him in the weekend paper that said he was just a real quiet, non-expressive type of person. But fellow athletes say he's really a good guy with a sense of humour. Hates meat pies, apparently, but they're okay with that. He also gives his money, time and contacts to help other athletes.
The whole manner in which he came to compete for Oz seemed very clinically planned, by his parents. Apparently Canada's training system conflicted with his business plans which is why they wanted him to play for Oz.
I really admire the guy actually, quietly spoken and cool, not outwardly emontional, he certainly does not seek self promotion, very much outside the norm for an elite athletic He just does what he does and does it very well!
He also obviously puts his business interest way above his sport, I think he could earn a lot more fame and money as a skier if he remained a canadian.

He's described as an enigma. Sounds right.
yeah, but what's his thoughts on vegemite??!
meh, I don't think it's that a big deal (although those pics are funny)... not everyone is cut out to pump fists, make a scene etc...
Trust me..after his display on the Podium.(politeness goes a long ways in our Country)....folks of Vancouver / Lower Mainland say "Keep em"
lol.
