Hmmm, no, I didn't really think the new ad targets locals so much. The website does seem that way to me. But if it does get locals interested then that's a good thing too. Our tourism industry needs all the help it can get.

It'll be a hard sell though as the common complaint from anyone is that Oz is a very expensive place to travel in. Many of our friends here in Perth say it's cheaper to travel to Bali, Malaysia, Thailand, etc. than go up to Broome or over east.

I looked into us going up to the northwest for a couple of weeks. Fly up, hire a 4WD, do some touring. The 4WD alone for 2 weeks is over $2000 and it's not unlimited mileage. We rented a 4WD in Denver for 16 days last year for $930 AUD, everything included, unlimited mileage.

Then click on "Watch the Ad".

The Blue Mountains scenes were awesome. Probably my favourite spot in Oz.

There's another thing on this site called www.nothinglikeaustralia.com that gives you a map and you double click on areas and there's postcards showing scenes and brief descriptions of people's experiences there. I think this is excellent.
Thanks Vichel.

The video looks like something Disney might put together.
More entertaining imho than the "...Where the bloody hell are ya?..." campaign.

I have the sudden urge to try playing piano on the sand.
Can you rent pianos at the beach, just like umbrellas, chairs or jet-skis?

But everyone looked so happy in the ad. "Spoil-sports".
That anchorperson should be force-fed 100 grams of Vegemite!

LOL! I would love to hear of some tourist coming to Oz and asking if they could do that ... "But it's in your ad! That's why I've come all this way. To play piano on the beach, just like in the ad!"

I swear Qantas did a very similar, almost exact ad about a year or two ago.

It's very similar to the Discovery Channel "Boom De Yah Da" ads and It certainly beats the previous tourism campaigns, especially the woefull "Australia" Walkabout one.

The "Where The bloody hell are You?" ad was sort of cheeky, but you can see why it failed!

I thought I remembered seeing an add mentioning going "Walkabout"...
Resembled the movie "Australia" and the character "Nuhlla."

"...Where the bloody hell are ya?..." felt more like someone was just reading a catalogue to me.
I definitely prefered the "Walkabout" campaign over "...Where the bloody hell are ya?..."

But, this new ad is a lot more cheeful, a lot more fun...
I hope it sticks around for a while.
*Yes it is similar the Discovery Channel song... but Oz has the better version.

Actually it was the web site that made me think it was targeting domestic tourists...

There was a "tourism" ad that co-incided with the launch of the "AUSTRALIA" movie...but many people thought that it was a promotion for the movie and therefore, failed to recognise it was a separate campaign altogether (and they call it "marketing"). We all know what happened to "AUSTRALIA"; it picked up Academy Awards for Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Original Score, Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Picture, Best Costume, Best Waste of Funds, Best everything....straight to DVD ...and the people who created that ad are probably now working at the local DVD store (trying to entice you to the buy the movie - be careful!!!)

...they applied alot more wisdom this time and created a very simplistic ad; more holistic and reflective of "Australia"

This disappoints me a bit too.
I'd love to see many places "beyond the black stump" like the Normanton QLD, Wyndham WA, Lake Eyre, and Coober Pedy SA...
but I doubt that I'll see more than one of those towns, due to the cost of travel.
