If you followed what the other drivers did during the off season, while there is nothing wrong with what they did, Dale Jr likes to stay out of the public eye and hangs out at his ranch (home).

As for the point that Jr got into racing because of his Dad, you still haven't said why that is a bad thing. It's not like he jumped right into the Winston Cup. He started out like everyone else in the Busch Series. (He actually started in Street Stock, moved to Late Model, then worked for his Dad as a mechanic while earning his associates degree. He didn't go to the Cup Series full time until 2000).
Many fans are quick to crticize other drivers who follow a similar path. I'm saying it's a bad thing, just people are hypocritical about it.

winning? really? how winning is he really? and is it in the least commensurate with even one tenth the accolades he gets?

I guess that's most peoples problem with him, for all the fame and noteriety he gets, it's not deserved. You match his number of wins vs. starts and find other drivers with similar stats and you'll see he's wayyyy more popular, and there's only one reason for it : his last name.

if his last name was Smith 98% of you guys wouldn't care a bit about him.

I think you missed my point a bit. I agree that other drivers deserve coverage. What I was trying to show is that the crowd goes wiled when JR goes by in the lead and that many people all yelling at the same time shows well on TV.

He's not winning now but he's won 18 Sprint Cup races and two consecutive Nationwide championships. If you're keeping track that's 10 more Sprint Cup wins than Kyle Petty.

And what if Michael Waltrip's last name was Smith? Would he have even made it past 1995 as a Winston Cup driver?

He is definitely not a showboater like the opthers. He is very reserved and calm. Jimmy, Jeff and Tony are pretty dramatic at times, not to mention the Bush bros. omg, let that go.....

Go Dale Jr. 88!!!

This might be the most inaccurate thing ever posted on cd. Hijacked? Really? Teresa is the one who built dei into what it was, even Sr. acknowledged that. She took his name and his fame and created a powerhouse company that was a force for years. The spoiled, mediocre, lucky to not be pumping gas ginger kid demanded majority ownership of something he really had nothing to do with creating. When he didn't get his way he had a hissy and went off to drive for a convicted felon. What a disrespectful punk.

Mod Note:

Hey, spirited discussion is great, but let's all keep in mind that City Data does not permit personal attacks aimed at other members.

Disagreeing with another member's views are one thing; taking shots at that member because of their views is quite another.

And if memory serves me correct Sr willed it to her. I'm guessing had he foreseen there would have been trouble in tragedy stipulations would have been added. Just my .02

Too bad they couldn't work something out..

I wish he wouldn't have left DEI...
