Instead of one really crappy stock car race, IMS will host two really crappy stock car races and one meh Grand-Am race.
I love NASCAR but for the love of god the Brickyard 400 is a terrible race. It's easily the worst of the season. I'm really hoping attendance continues to decline even with the new support events because there has to be a point where NASCAR or IMS will say "screw it" and pull the plug on this farce. It's nothing more than a dog-and-pony show and it's run its course.

Yeah, actually it is. I'm not a fan of Michigan or Fontana but they can at least at times run 3 and 4 wide there. At Indy it's mostly a single-file parade all day long. A majority of the passing takes place on pit road. It's like watching an F-1 race.
Indy reminds me a lot of Pocono. The straightaways are too long, which doesn't allow for much chance to move forward. Track position is everything at this track. The two of them are the worst on the circuit in my opinion. Going to the track would be ever worse, especially if you sat on the grandstands on the inside of the track. I still don't understand why those stands are even there when you can only see the front straightaway. But then again, I guess the track is so large that it's probably very tough to see the entire track even on the grandstands outside of the track.
ESPN tried like hell to milk the historic aspect of the race but moving the race from IRP/LOR to IMS was a massive failure. I think NASCAR expected to draw a lot more than 40,000 to this race. 40k at a race at Indy is a disgrace.
I did, however, get a kick out of Danica being outqualified by Johanna Long. I also got a chuckle out of her wrecking herself when she tried to move Reed Sorenson over. 44 races into her Nationwide career and she can't even dump another driver correctly.

And inevitably you get a backmarker like the 78 car taking gas only and re-starting at the front of the outside row (which is already a bad place to be), only to hold up the better cars stuck behind him while he sinks like a rock in the field after the green drops.
