nobody. Penske was the Dodge flagship team. There was some talk Dodge might have been trying to court Michael Andretti to start a Sprint Cup team.

With Penske leaving for Ford, Dodge was basically out of Nascar next year anyway. Especially with Penske recently deciding to not build the Dodge engines (which makes sense, since they are not going to race them).

I had also seen some rumors that Dodge was trying to court Petty Racing, since their contract with Ford is up for renewal. My take is that with Penske backing out of building the engines, it killed any hopes of Petty running them since they had no engine builder.

Maybe Fiat isn't that excited about pouring money into Nascar anyway.

Not a big surprise as Dodge just didn't produce results, they really needed a top tier team to help them with R&D.

Speaking of flagship teams for Dodge... Do you think Evernham Motorsports would have survived if he didn't take on Gillette as a partner and see the assets drained?

actually they needed more than just one top tier team. with penske being the only team running dodges, there was really no help with developing parts needed to make a racing program successful. if dodge had say three teams running their cars, then it would have been worth the effort to stay in nascar, but as it is, it is just too expensive.

I don't consider Penske a top tier team, for all the namesake, for all the money, for all the reputation they don't do squat. Pretty much in the same league as Ganassi.

Based on performance over the last ten fifteen years there really is only one top tier team. Hendrick and it's offshoot Stuart Haas.
Roush, Childress, Ganassi, Penske. are about equal.

If Jack Roush would put his ego to rest and form a working relashionship with Penske he will be able to squash Hendricks domination.

Don't know really, the mergence with RYR didn't seem to have much of an impact. Penske and Roush to me would equate to Kmart/Sears.
