It was a great race. I stayed up until 3AM to watch it and I think NBC Sports is doing a good job with broadcasting. I still miss Bob Varsha but I think the new team will loosen up as the season progresses.
The tire situation was interesting, everyone was sure that a three pit stop race would be required so I think a few of the drivers abused their tires thinking this would be the case.
Also Sutil... Wow!!!
I thought McLaren would do better, looks like Hamilton saw the writing on the wall though and jumped ship. Mercedes so gas was much more impressive than last year.
Expected more from Red Bull but I knew they had telemetry problems and kers wasn't working at the beginning. Still, Webber had a terrible start. With the issue they had the team is saying that this was really the best they could have done.
Anyone know the reason Alonso and Hamilton don't like Vettel? The announcers stated that they consider themselves the two best drivers and Hamilton was interesting when it came to discussing Vettel on Top Gear. No doubt they're both excellent but Vettel has IMO proven he's pretty impressive. Sure he has an amazing car but he's pulled himself out of some really rough conditions to end well.
At the end of the day I'm still thrilled with the winner. He drove an excellent race.
Interesting race, interesting first shot at covering it by NBCSports. I see that Will Buxton had a camera man for qualifying and for the pre-race show, if not for the practices. Good job by NBCSports following the confusing qualifying and airing it, however tape-delayed it may have been. At least it was broadcast, which is a real plus and says something for their commitment to broadcasting (rather than just streaming on the internet).
I guess I am a little disappointed that there isn't anything above and beyond SPEED's coverage here (even down to the annoyingly over-dramatized Sam Posey intro, something I hoped we were going to lose) -so far it is the same, except swapping Leigh Diffey for Bob Varsha. I am pleased to see ("hear," actually) that Diffey toned down the shouting he tends to do when he gets excited. Wonder if they will still have the Matchett "Chalk Talk" segments?
Bascvailly to me it makes no sense to have the most technologcal race cars in the world then use tires to slow the cars dwon. It was clear i qualfyig and at star pof race who was fatsest and in fact pulled away until thsoe tires just said you can't go your fastest anymore in a raqce.Kind of defeats the real F1 tach to going as fast as tires allow.Tires should at elast last 1/4 of race at speeds these cars are capable of.
Those tires do A LOT of work. There is no way to avoid wear. The Super Softs always wear off quick. The intermediates worked well. Kimi only did a 2-stop and set the fastest lap of the race on the second last lap!
Track temperature and tire pressures also come in to play.
Pretty sure FIA told Pirelli they WANTED tire wear.
Agreed, I also enjoy it. It brings another aspect into the race of when to pit and what tire they use, especially in races like today's where there's a chance of rain.

The FIA really doesn't have a choice.
Racing tires(slicks) degrade much faster than a road tire. These tires are designed to give the cars maximum performance which come at a cost, degradation. The only way around this is with a harder compound tire, which they have.
Where they place on the grid is NEVER an indication of where they should/will finish. Especially in races where pit strategy come in to play.
Different chassis, braking, temperature(track, tire and air), tire pressures, lock-ups, heavy braking, amount of corners, high speed cornering(Gs), downforce, suspension and weight ALL effect performance and tire degradation.
A simple change in tire pressures can be a difference of a couple seconds and positive/negative tire degradation. Same with Camber.
Air temperature plays a role in determining fuel mapping. Air temperature can change between qualifying and race. Tweaks between the two can have a positive/negative effect.
Pit stop timing can change the race.
You get the idea. There is A LOT of factors that changes things.
